AUTHENTICITY

Porto is a city of details and unique people.

You can dedicate your visit to observing and taking pictures of the infinity of particularities that only this city can offer.

The historic city is the result of a sedimentation of architectural styles from different cultures and has almost a thousand years of history.

If you love to travel and like to get to know the authentic and genuine side of different cities, then Oporto is a city you must visit, because it combines these two rare qualities.

Porto can be explored in many different ways: on foot, by tram, by boat, by bike, by cable car, on a sightseeing bus, by renting a tuck-tuck, a Segway, or even by helicopter. Everything is possible in Oporto.

If you start walking from the city centre towards the river, it’s easy to absorb the genuine authenticity of this city. As a starting point, we suggest Bolhão Market. Walk through Santa Catarina Street, Batalha Square, 31st Janeiro Street and Aliados Avenue to Clérigos. Then continue via Lóios Square, Flores Street and S. Domingos Square, take a peek at the Sé neighborhood - the most authentic neighborhood of the city - and finish at the Ribeira Square.

This itinerary will lead you past a local market, the major monuments of the city, the welcoming terraces of coffee shops and bars, amazing and cheap restaurants, and exciting places full of genuine people. The authenticity of Oporto will start to become a part of you.

At night, if you're interested in a relaxed and safe nightlife, the area of Galerias de Paris offers a variety of unique and authentic bars.

Porto truly is a genuine and liberal city, with space for everybody.

A visit to Porto is not complete without enjoying a sunset in the company of a glass of Port wine in one of the many terraces along the Douro River, from Ribeira to the beach in Matosinhos, where the river flows into the sea.

Another must-do is a boat trip on the Douro to watch the five bridges and the view of the city from the river. Visiting the authentic port wine cellars is also mandatory.

Do not forget that also visiting the slopes of the Douro River is a unique experience.

Getting to know the city of Oporto and the surrounding Douro region is something memorable – it’s still possible to breathe in authenticity!
